Ubuntu LTS 20.04 and CentOS 8 installation question

    I'm in an environment that uses Ubuntu LTS 20.04 for security reasons. Since CentOS 7 is not getting full support, and CentOS 8 is not supported by Zenoss. Does anyone have any experience installing a current version of Zenoss in an Ubuntu LTS 20.04 environment? Alternatively, is there any news on when CentOS 8 will be supported by the Zenoss team?

    Hi Stuart

    I don't have any experience and tried to install Zenoss V6 on Ubuntu 20.04(LTS) or CentOS 8.
    So I can't tell you for sure if it will work or not.

    Here are some information which can help you deciding if you want to try it.

    1. Zenoss V6 is currently not supported on both versions.

    2. Zenoss V6 is using device mapper as the storage driver. As far as I can see device mapper is not
    listed under the supported storage drivers on Ubuntu 20.04(TLS)

    3. On RHEL 8 (CentOS 8) docker is not supported anymore.

    On RHEL 8 (CentOS 8) the default Python Version is 3.X (Zenoss uses Python 2.7.5)

    Hi Arthur,

    Thanks for the analysis.  Sounds like we're going to have to explore options with our security team.
    Boiled down, neither option is looking good without some serious integration work.

    Well, I can hope things change for either platform sooner than later.  Or for that matter, things change on the Zenoss Community release with respect to CentOS 8.

    Thought I would chime in here even though this is an older thread as I am looking to install onto CentOS 8.

    3. Docker is supported on CentOS 8. Full packages are on the site below:

    Python 2.7.5 can be installed onto CentOS 8:

    There could be other issues and I will address them as I install.

    Hello,
    I just finished a Core 6.3.2 install on Oracle Linux 7. Downloaded version 7.4, but after upgrade, cat /etc/redhat-release showed 7.9. Went ahead with the installation process as listed in the Install guides, and ended up with a successful installation. dnsmasq required installation (yum install dnsmasq), but other then that, per the instructions ...

    I decided to try this path since this is a Redhat distro that should remain supported by Oracle in the future, and hoped that Zenoss would continue with RHEL support in the future.
